Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo School Art Show

The Art Show gives students in grades K through 12 an opportunity to compete in district shows for a chance to have their work displayed in the Hayloft Gallery during the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo which kicks off in March.

A Rodeo Committee came to the campus to judge the artwork. The art is divided into five categories: colored drawing, mixed media, monochromatic drawing, painting and 3-D. Each entry receives a blue, red or white ribbon. From the blue ribbon winners; a Best of Show, Gold Medal and Special Merit award are selected in each class: elementary, junior high and high school. High school student art is eligible for the show’s art auction.

“The art show is a wonderful opportunity for some of our students to participate in rodeo events without the added commitment of raising an animal,” said Christie Franz, Special Programs, Willis ISD. “In addition, participating seniors are eligible to apply for rodeo scholarships. Winners also may apply for art workshops at Glassell and Western Art Academy.”
