LLMS Aristokats are Honored with Several Awards at Dance Competition

On Saturday, February 8th, the Aristokats attended the Miss Dance Drill Team Texas Competition at Oakridge High School. The ladies participated in 3 team and 3 officer routines. The Aristokats returned home with two plaques for choreography on all six of their routines. The team earned a trophy for Best in Show Runner-Up and Sweepstakes. The officers also earned a Best in Show Runner-Up and Sweepstakes trophy. Way to go girls!

LLMS Students Give Back

LLMS boys and girls basketball teams took on LLMS faculty this past week in the annual student vs. faculty basketball game. It was a hard fought game on both sides and there are bumps, bruises and backaches to show. It was a lot of fun for not only the participants but spectators as well. In the end, the game was tied but not all was lost. The students donated over 450 can goods that were taken to the Willis ISD Parent Support Center! A special thanks to Coach York for organizing the event.

Bad Weather Make Up Days Feb 17th and April 7th

Willis, TX, Jan 31, 2014– Willis ISD will make up the two missed days of instruction due to the recent bad weather on Monday, February 17, 2014 and Monday, April 7, 2014. Both days were originally scheduled to be holidays for students and professional development for staff.

“Our students missed two days of classroom instruction and we feel it is essential to make up those days at times that will most positively impact student learning,” stated WISD Superintendent Tim Harkrider.

LLMS Gets Fit

In an effort to promote a healthy lifestyle for students and staff, LLMS is kicking off a month long fitness contest amongst all willing staff members. Each participant has been given a pedometer to wear throughout the day and has been asked to calculate the total number of steps taken. Teams with the most steps at the end of the month will receive a prize and most importantly have bragging rights. LLMS lets get fit!

Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Artwork

Eighth grader Colin Carsten qualified to move on to the next stage of competition with his artwork for the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. Out of 30 contestants that were judged at district show, he won. Hopefully he takes it home big from Houston. Colin and many others worked extremely hard on this project.

All-Region Choir Auditions

This past weekend students from the Lynn Lucas choir auditioned for the All-Region Choir at Tomball Junior High. They worked very hard and performed well! Congratulations to Elizabeth Marinelli who will be rehearsing and performing with the Region 9 Choir in Spring, TX on February 7th & 8th!

We wish our girls all the best as they go to Reliant Stadium this weekend to compete for a national championship. They have been working extremely hard and we know they will bring home the gold. Go get 'em girls!

Students in Mrs. Foster's 8th grade math class work together in preparation for their exam over the Pythagorean Theorem. Mrs. Foster utilizes activities in her classroom that encourage collaboration and competition in an effort to promote student achievement.

LLMS Students Commit to Graduate

Thursday, January 9th, LLMS students attended a presentation courtesy of Jostens Inc. entitled Commitment to Graduate. Commitment to Graduate is an initiative to address the growing student dropout rate across America. It encourages students to strive for their high school diploma and set a goal for the next stage of life. This research-based initiative focuses on helping students prepare for the future by setting a career goal beyond high school, which might include trade schools, the military or college. As part of their commitment, students were asked to sign a banner that has their graduation year written on it. This banner will go with the students to Willis High School as a reminder of their commitment.
